Mangrove
You’ll find two types of mangrove around Booderee’s inlets and harbours: grey mangrove and river mangrove.
Grey mangroves like to grow in soft muds and sandy soils. They can grow up to 25 m high, and have spongy roots which spread out from the base of the trunk. Grey mangroves flower in mid to late summer, and are highly tolerant of saline waters and soils.
River mangroves, as suggested by their name, like to grow along the edges of a river. They grow to be much shorter than grey mangroves, some growing to a maximum of 6 m tall. Small clusters of white flowers often feature on these plants.
Going kayaking is the best way to see mangroves up close.
