Booderee National Park Vertebrate Pest 1080 and Canid Pest Ejector (CPE) Program
Booderee National Park Vertebrate Pest 1080 and Canid Pest Ejector (CPE) Program
Friday 14 February 2025

Introduced foxes are a concern to our native wildlife and pose a threat to the unique species that call Booderee home. Therefore, it is important we complete fox population control activities within Booderee National Park to minimise the threat to native wildlife.

This is a notice that the Booderee National Park Vertebrate Pest 1080 and Canid Pest Ejector (CPE) Program will begin on 18 February 2025 and run through to 18 December 2025, except for school holidays, public holidays, over long weekends, and other times when visitation is high.

The program will target red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) through a monthly 1080 ground-baiting program within Booderee. All baiting sites are signed and located at least 500m from residential areas. This will be combined with targeted CPE deployments as determined by a fox monitoring program that also runs throughout the year.

While pets are not permitted within Booderee, it is important to note that 1080 can cause death to cats and dogs and is poisonous to humans. Bait stations are located off walking tracks, and we urge visitors to not disturb a bait station, should you come across one.

Predation of native fauna by the red fox is recognised nationally as a key threatening process under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). Under the Booderee National Park Management Plan 2015-2025, staff are to maintain a control program for foxes and monitor the program’s effectiveness, amending control methods as required (6.10.10) and monitor the distribution and abundance of significant invasive species including foxes (6.10.18).

If you would like any further information or have questions about the program, please contact the Natural Resource Manager at Booderee National Park on 1800 357 823.
