Djiriba Waagura Whale Walk

Follow in the footsteps of the Ancestors and join Djiriba Waagura on the song line of the whale migration on the Burriburri Whale Walk from Murrays Beach in Booderee National Park.

Hear stories of Country, take part in a traditional smoking ceremony, taste bush food and see the breathtaking views this amazing landscape has to offer. You can also join Djiriba Waagura along the Shoalhaven River for the Warigala Badha cultural education walk at Mundhamia, home of the red bellied black snake.

Duration: 3 - 4 hours

Distance: 6 kms

What to Bring:

  • Sun protection,
  • comfortable enclosed shoes and
  • drinking water in case you get thirsty along the walk.

Light refreshments will be provided at the end of the tour

Bio:

Matthew Simms is a Wandi Wandian man who belongs to the Dhurga language group of the Yuin Nation on the South Coast of New South Wales. His cultural knowledge and connection to land and sea have been passed down through his family and cultural mentors from across Australia.

Matthew also maintains a strong connection to his Bidjigal mob from the La Perouse area through his Simms and Timbery family lines. In addition, he has connections to Country within the Ngiyambaa-Wongaibon language group, in the Garulgiyalu region of north-western New South Wales.

Matthew established Djiriba Waagura (meaning “Two Crows”) to share culture and empower communities through cultural and wellbeing programs.
