Fur seal
Sharing the waters of our park are these magnificent seals. The largest type of seal in Australia, fur seals have large eyes, a pointed face with whiskers and sharp teeth. The males are larger than the females and have a mane of coarse dark hair when mature: they can grow up to just until two and a half metres long!
The fur seal prefers to hang out in rocky outcrops and flat, open terrain. They prey on squid or school fish, as well as crustaceans, bottom-dwelling fish, and more.
The fur seal is considered to be a vulnerable species in New South Wales. We don’t recommend getting too close!
You may catch a glimpse of these seals catching fish in Booderee’s sea caves at Devil’s Elbow, on the Munyunga Waraga Dhugan trail.
